FINDING A GOOD THERAPIST

People seek out therapy for many reasons, but in my experience most patients enter treatment in the middle of something.  Perhaps you're wondering why you feel the way you do or have the same distressing thoughts over and over.  Some are curious why they can't seem to stop repeating evidently self-defeating patterns of behavior.  Maybe you're anxious about a chosen or unchosen life transition.  Or you just feel stuck.

Therapy can clarify your current situation, help you gain an understanding of how you arrived at this point, and begin to formulate a healthy path forward.

The first step is finding the right therapist for you.  Take a look at my website and if what you see is of interest, please reach out.  I look forward to hearing from you.

ABOUT ME

ABOUT ME

I received my doctorate in clinical psychology from The New School for Social Research in New York City.  During my doctoral studies, I trained in numerous behavioral health settings such as Beth Israel Medical Center (NYC), Optimus Health Care (Stamford, Connecticut), and Roosevelt Hospital's Center for Intensive Treatment of Personality Disorders (NYC).  In 2015 I completed an American Psychological Association accredited clinical psychology internship at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.  Prior to joining Garden District Mental Health, I held an Assistant Professor appointment in the Department of Leadership, Ethics, and Law at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland from 2017-2020 where I taught courses in abnormal psychology and human behavior.  I am a licensed clinical psychologist in the District of Columbia and the states of New York and Louisiana.

Although my practice is broadly oriented toward general adult psychotherapy (both individual and couples), I have specialized training in treatments for severe personality disorders and trauma.  I additionally have an extensive research and clinical background working with individuals who identify as transgender, genderqueer, gender non-conforming, and gender non-binary.  My clinical practice and outlook on life is also informed by training and awareness in cultural competence models and global travel, including two years living and working in Japan.
